1971: Film director loses copyright 41

●Anime studio manager (member of the Anime Subcontractors Association) *1

The Anime Subcontractors Association started last summer.
The managers are in a situation where they can no longer rest on their laurels.
The number of people working in anime will decrease if things continue like this. Since anime production cannot be mechanized, humans have no choice but to draw it.
The premise is that the reason people are not coming is probably because of low production costs.
Last year, the Japan Actors Union raised the issue of production costs in the anime industry, along with raising voice actor fees, and held a large-scale demonstration for the first time in decades, and we cooperated with it.
As a result, the voice actors won their demand for a pay increase, although not the full amount. In other words, they have shown that it can be done if you try, so I am encouraged.
To be honest, there has been criticism even among us in the Subcontractors Association over the past year that "only voice actors' (fees) are increasing, and we are not receiving production costs."
However, you can't achieve everything together.

The Japan Actors Union is a well-established organization with a track record spanning decades.
They have negotiated with TV stations many times before they were able to achieve this increase in fees.
On the other hand, we have only been rushing through talks about raising production costs in the last two years.
In any case, we have had no track record of organizing.
So I think it is only natural that TV stations are slow to agree to a production cost increase.
Now that a year has passed (since the increase in voice actor fees was realized), the situation on the ground has hardly changed.

So, with the cooperation of the "Anime kyotou"(*2), our Subcontractors Association, and the Japan Actors Union, we are planning to hold the same demonstration as last year's voice actor demonstration, but this time it will be organized by people working in the anime industry.

Anyway, we need to appeal to the public and the media once again.
Since this is a negotiation with TV stations, it obviously won't be broadcast on the news, and TV stations didn't cover the previous demonstration either.
Even so, we received a lot of coverage in the newspapers, and conversely, the media are now contacting us asking, "When is the next demonstration going to be held? Please let us know."

*1 Here, we have translated it as "Anime Subcontractors Association" for convenience to distinguish it from "動画協会 (Animation Association)”, but the official name of "Anime Subcontractors Association" is "アニメーション事業者協会(Animation Business operators Association)."

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and large companies are currently in discussions to expand derogation, which would remove working hour restrictions from the Labor Standards Act.
