We are not copyright holders, but neighboring rights holders.
There are also composers in the Japan Musicians Union.
It's become popular recently for singer-songwriters to write their own songs and sing them, so in that sense, performers can also become copyright holders.
Currently, 6,000 musicians are members of the Music Union.
The majority of them are neighboring rights holders.
Our union's biggest job is basically to improve the conditions for performers and musicians to perform.
At the same time, social security for performers and musicians is lagging behind, so we are campaigning to improve social security and to promote music culture in Japan in order to improve our lives.
At the same time, we are working on a movement to expand neighboring rights guaranteed by law.

Specifically, what we do is that in terms of performance conditions, we make agreements every year with NHK, the Recording Industry Association of Japan, and the five commercial broadcasters in Tokyo on minimum performance fees.
This is the most basic thing.
We negotiate and decide on fees for the reuse of recorded or filmed material, as well as fees based on neighboring rights, on behalf of our 6,000 members, on behalf of our members, on behalf of our 6,000 members.

We work together with the Japan Actors Union and the Geidankyo, a group that is very closely related to film.
We have agreements with NHK and private broadcasters to settle fees based on neighboring rights.
For example, in the case of NHK, for rebroadcasts, they pay 30% (30% of the original performance fee), and for private broadcasters, they pay 20%, and since private broadcasters have network stations, if it is broadcast nationwide, each station pays 20% plus 1%.
These days, key stations have roughly 20 network stations.
Therefore, the rebroadcast fee that we will negotiate will be 20% from commercial broadcasters plus the fee from their network stations, totaling about 40%.
