Part-time job at a TV news center

Since working in animation meant he couldn't take any time off and couldn't do any independent work, he quit the animation company.
From 1988 (age 26) to 1992 (age 30), Harada worked part-time at a TV station's news center.
The news center operates 24 hours a day, but with a two-shift system, there was no overtime and he was sure to have free time.
Harada created MIDORI while working in press art.
If he had stayed at the animation company, it would have been impossible for him to create his own work.
However, if an emergency news item came in, he would be suddenly woken up even if he was taking a nap, so it was a job that put a strain on the heart.
Some people have actually died from overwork.
In the case of emergency news, we often received requests to "write it quickly 10 minutes before it airs."
As a result, Harada quit this job after five years.

Flips, subtitles, etc. written by Harada.
Harada is left-handed, and he wrote all of his letters and calligraphy with his left hand.
This was a time before smartphones like we have today, so Harada recorded his work with a film camera when he got home.
The TV station was a right-leaning company, but Tomoko Nagano, seen in the upper left, is now a liberal freelance newscaster.

Back in the analog days when personal computers were not widespread, Harada studied lettering at design school, so he writes the subtitles for his own works himself.
