*Many Japanese people don't often express their personal opinions.
In particular, people who work for a company don't express their personal opinions.
But here he deliberately says, "I think."
This slightly strange narration is a reference to Shuji
Terayama's experimental play "観客席(The Audience Seats)."
In "The Audience Seats," strange in-theatre announcements are also made, surprising the audience.

Maebashi Station Staff, Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture: So you're asking why the express fare is so high?
Harada: Is this a decision made by the higher-ups at the National Railways?
Title: Harada Animation Studio
Staff: Yes... that's the problem...
That's the only response we can give.

*Harada discovered that on the train from Gunma to Tokyo, due to urban development and the opening of the Shinkansen, the semi-express trains were changed to arrive earlier in Tokyo, while the express trains, which should have been the fastest, arrived later. Despite this, why was the fare for the express train so high? He called the station staff to ask.

Was there a war called "Ussen"? The Ussen World War! Huh!?

(During World War II) Japan was number one in the world!

*Harada recorded a conversation between two neighborhood children. One child was bullying another while expressing a false belief that Japan had been superior in World War II.

7.49

He has bucktooth. His real name is Yoshitake Imada, and he was born on April 13, 1962 in Nakamachi, Kiryu City.
The number 4 (April) is said to be an unlucky number in Japan.Nakamachi is a real town.

7.57

His father died in the war. His grandfather blinded himself by drinking methyl alcohol during the war, and later died of a cerebral hemorrhage. He lived with his mother and grandmother, but after his mother collapsed and was hospitalized, he was taken in by a relative. At that time in Japan, no one laughed at his bucktooth.

*Harada's mother's family ran a fish shop in Kiryu.
Harada's grandfather sold fish to Koreans, who were discriminated against by Japanese people at the time.
During the war, Japanese people massacred Koreans.
Harada's mother and grandmother witnessed Koreans being taken away by truck from a nearby Korean community.
A city hall official came and told them not to tell anyone about what they had just seen.
The Koreans never came back.
They were reportedly taken to the Hanaoka coal mine for forced labor, and then killed.
After the war, when supplies were scarce, a Korean man was selling methylated alcohol instead of alcohol.
Harada's grandfather liked alcohol, so he bought it and drank it.
Blood spurted from his grandfather's eyes. It was methylated alcohol.
It is unclear whether it was the Korean's negligence or revenge against the Japanese.
Immediately after the war, everyone was doing their best to survive, and was serious about living, so no one laughed at the physical disabilities of others.
An environment in which people mocked and ridiculed others was born with the disappearance of war experiences and memories.
Under neoliberalism since 1981, this kind of atmosphere and culture has accelerated.

8.18

Kiryu City is a terraced textile town in the southeastern part of Gunma Prefecture that developed as a market for textiles and silk.
Fog rolls in in the mornings and evenings, and the rows of houses that escaped air raids during the war still retain their traditional appearance.
Bucktooth clearly remembered the day before he was taken in by his relatives, eating brown sugar and gazing at the chimneys of a dye factory.

*Kiryu city began redevelopment around 1990, and the rows of old houses were wiped out, so this scenery can no longer be seen.Recently, it was also revealed that the Kiryu city hall had been discriminating against and bullying the weak, which became a problem.

Buckba was taken in by his uncle, who lived in his home where there were other children his age, but Buckba felt lonely there too.

The wind in the city of buildings. If I turn around, there are no signposts, no tomorrow and no past.
If a generation passes, I will have no peaceful resting place and I die alone on a journey without a destination,
who will hold my body?
I wonder if I should try singing... a lullaby.
A lullaby that will never wake me up again.

*This was filmed in the same location (Shinjuku) as the scene in Terayama Shuji's "Throw Away Your Books, Rally in the Streets (1971)" in which a penis-shaped punching bag is hung from a wall and the police scold him, as well as the final scene where a mother and son have a meal.
