十三佛 Juusanbutsu (Thirteen Buddhas)
"Juusanbutsu" is an old ritual to mourn the dead that was carried out in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture until around the 1970s.
People who gather at the wake chant Buddhist prayers while rotating long rosary or bowls of water in both hands.
There is a similar scene in Shuji Terayama's film "Den-en ni shisu (Die in the Countryside)".
