An underground beer cafe in Shinjuku

In the basement of a station in the middle of Tokyo, there is a beer cafe called "BERG" that Harada often visits. (Opened in 1964)

Inside the cafe, there are stickers saying "Stop Genocide" and "Free Palestine" as well as photos of demonstrations.

The second-generation manager of the cafe declares himself to be a leftist. When elections come around, he recommends liberal candidates and explains communism on Twitter. That's why his Twitter account is always on fire. (*1)

Previously, the station building asked him to leave, but the manager openly confronted them and is still open to the public.

Whenever there is a demonstration in Shinjuku, the cafe is crowded with demonstrators.

The Japanese government calls the "new corona" a "cold" and has neglected to take measures against infection, and Japanese food and beverage businesses have also followed suit, but this cafe is the only one that consistently calls for infection prevention measures such as wearing masks.

The survival of this cafe in today's conservative and politically apathetic Japan is miraculous, but at the root of this is the unwavering convictions and ideology of the cafe managers.

Although it often comes under attack from conservative or right-wing citizens, what's important is that the owner remains unwavering in his beliefs.
The beer and food served at this cafe are delicious, which is another important point.

The cafe has a huge number of supporters, and is packed every day.

There is a photo of Prime Minister Kishida below, but this is not a support for Kishida. The poster has a sarcastic message about the Liberal Democratic Party, saying, "We should raise taxes for the people. We, the Liberal Democratic Party, commit tax evasion."
