Koseki

The photo below is called ''Koseki (family register).'' (Shuji Terayama often used it as a motif).
In Japan, you cannot exercise your basic rights unless you register all your past personal information with the state, including place of birth, childbirth, marriage, and divorce.
In Japan, you cannot erase your past.Because of the household registration system, people in areas that have historically been discriminated against have their information publicly recorded, leading to further discrimination.
During the war, the Japanese government forced homeless wanderers to register as family members. The government's purpose was to recruit them into military service.
This family registration system exists only in Japan.

Below is Harada's mother's family register copy.
Harada's family was a single-parent household. Harada's mother was a mistress of a man named Tsutomu.
This de facto practice of polygamy in Japan continued until the postwar period.
Currently, the only people who are taking over this role are wealthy people or politicians from the Liberal Democratic Party.

Harada's mother was very similar to the mother of Shuji Terayama's '' Pastoral To Die In The Country'' and the mother of Prullansky's '' Santa Sangre''.
Harada's mother gave birth to Harada's older sister, who died when Harada's older sisterwas an infant due to an illness and a doctor's misdiagnosis.
Harada's mother was so angry that she hit the doctor in the forehead with a clog.
Harada's mother was so shocked and sad that she did not report the birth of Harada's older sister to the city hall. Harada's older sister didn't even have a name yet.
Later, Harada's mother gave birth to Harada's older brother Osamu Harada, but Osamu also died in a traffic accident when he was a child.
Harada's mother desperately wanted to have a child, and despite her advanced age, she gave birth to Hiroshi Harada out of sheer tenacity. The birth was by caesarean section.
