Sponges

Blurry effects of background images and cels (mainly dust etc.) are expressed not with an airbrush, but with many strokes of a sponge with paint.

This is a technique used in Japanese commercial animation in the 1970s.

This method is used from Harada's "Death Lullaby" to "Zashikiro".
